The Institute was established in 1994 and shifted to its new campus in May 2002.

Campus

The Institute campus is spread on 9 acres of land. It is situated on G.T.Road around 6 Kms from the city bus stand and 4 kms from the Railway Station. The main Administrative & Teaching Block of 5110 Sq.meters, 112 scatter boys hostel,60 scatter girls hostel, Principal’s residence , staff residence and 11 KVA Sub Station with power back up through generator.

Admission Procedure

Admission is granted by National Council, New Delhi to those students who qualify Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) and the seats are offered on merit-cum-choice through open counseling. The advertisement of JEE is published in the leading newspapers of India in January every year.

Eligibility

The candidate should have passed 10+2 stage or equivalent examination in any academic stream.

Age

The maximum age of the candidate is 22 years,relaxable up to 25 years for candidates belonging to SC & ST category to the order of 15% & 71/2 repectively.3% seats are reserved for those who are physically handicapped.

A Brief Profile

Beant College of Engineering and Technology,Gurdaspur was established by the Government of Punjab as an autonomous Institution, through a Registered Society. The foundation stone was laid on February 28,1994 and the college was inaugurated on August 20,1995 by the Chief Minister, Late Sardar Beant Singh.The College imparts instructions in six disciplines, namely Chemical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Information Technology and is affiliated to Punjab Technical University,Jalandhar.It is situated 5 kilometers away from the Gurdaspur Bus Stand and 3 kilometers away from the Railway Station and is easily approachable by local conveyance such as cycle rickshaws and three wheelers.

Unemployment Allowance

Unemployment allowance branch in District Employment office provides unemployment allowance to educated unemployed persons after three years of registration with Employment Office with family income not exceeding Rs. 1000/- per month. This allowance is Rs 200/- pm for applicants who have passed Graduation and above and Rs 150/- who have passed Matric and below Graduation. Unemployed Handicapped applicants are given this allowance after one year of registration whereas deaf & dumb applicants are immediately given after registration. Deaf, dumb & Blind applicants who are Graduates and above are given Rs 400/- pm whereas who are Matric and below Graduation are given Rs 300/- pm.

Vocational Guidance Branch

This branch provides valuable information about Self-employment, different and new Careers or professions to unemployed applicants. Vocational Guidance Officer from this office visits about six schools in a month and provides school talks. Every year World Handicap Day is observed and on this day, handicapped applicants are made aware of the aids being provided by Centre & Punjab Government for them. Vocational Guidance Officer holds a camp about self employment every month.

Employment Market Information (EMI) Section

There are three EMI units namely District employment exchange at Gurdaspur, Employment Exchange at Batala and Employment Exchange at Pathankot. The main function of these units is to compliance the different sections of the employment exchanges' compulsory notifications of vacancies Act – 1959 and rules made under it. This act is applicable to all employers of Public Sector and Private Sector where employees strength is 25 or more excluding part time workers. Under section 4(i) & 4(ii) it is mandatory for all employers to notify the vacancies to the concerned employment exchange before filling up. Under Section 5(i) & 5(ii), the employer in every establishment in Public or Private sector shall furnish returns ER-I quarterly & return E-II biannually to the concerned employment exchange. Under Section 6 of the Act, Employment Officer of the concerned area is empowered to check the employers record. Section 7 of the Act is empowered to prosecute the defaulter employers.
