Key Achievement |
Gurdaspur has made significant achievements in horticulture sector during the recent. District comprising total geographical area of 262000 hectares (7.1% of state area). Out of which 8001.4 hectares are under horticulture crops mainly Litchi, Mango, Guava, Peach, Pear, Plum, Potato, Peas, Cauliflower etc. Department guide farmers to shift them towards the protected cultivation, farmers also show interest in protected cultivation by adopting it on 27.1 hec, area. Department also established Five processing centre in distt for value addition of farmer produce and to conduct skill development training. Seven Ripening chambers are operated In distt. which help of the farmers to fetch premium price their produce. To increase the farmer income Twenty Seven Mushroom units are running successfully under the guidance of department. To decrease post harvest losses Six cold stores with 14000 MT capacity are available to store the perishable produce of the farmers. Distt. Farmers also rearing 2325 colonies of honey bee as subsidiary occupation. |

Gurdaspur is one of the fast emerging district in horticulture sector. It promote growth of Horticulture sector through differentiated strategies which include extension, Technology promotion, Post Harvest Management, Research Processing and Marketing. For technical know how to each and every farmer, Department organize training for farmers related to Hi-tech production of Mushrooms, Vegetables and Nursery from various Centre of Excellence situated in Punjab. For food Nutritional security department provide mini vegetables kits in both winter and summer seasons at reliable price. Department running two Government nurseries one in Gurdaspur and another in Qadian from where good quality fruits plants(Mango, Litchi, Lemon, Guava, Pear, Plum, Peach, Apricot) are available for tube well and orchard plantation. Certified seed of potato are also provided to the farmers from two vegetable seed farms. |
